Choosing the day
Tuesday — Mangalvar
The day of Mangal Dev and the traditional choice for any Mangal-related anushthan. The temple is at its most crowded, and it is worth arriving early and booking the puja in advance.
Bhaumvati Amavasya
When an Amavasya falls on a Tuesday, the day carries particular significance for Mangal puja. These are the busiest days of the year outside Simhastha.
Other weekdays
Quieter, and easier if you want an unhurried anushthan or are travelling with elders. Puja is performed on every day of the week within the usual window.
What to bring for an anushthan
- Name and gotra of the yajman — every puja here is performed in the yajman’s own name and gotra.
- Birth details if the puja follows from a kundli — date, time and place of birth.
- Samagri is normally arranged by the temple; confirm at the time of booking so nothing is duplicated.
- Modest dress, as at any temple. Footwear is removed before entering the shrine.
How long to allow
Darshan by itself takes a short while. A Mangal Dosh Nivaran or Kaal Sarp anushthan performed with the complete vidhi generally runs one to three hours. If you are combining the visit with darshan at Shree Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, allow a comfortable half day for both.
